M2TS Video Format

What is M2TS video format? M2TS video format is a container file format for multiplexing audio, video and other streams. It is based on the MPEG transport stream container and is also known as BDAV MPEG-2 transport stream. This format is commonly used for high definition video on Blu-ray Disc and AVCHD.

A software that supports M2TS video file formats usually works only with decrypted or unencrypted files. Blu-ray Video software players can usually play back encrypted content from original disc. Currently M2TS video format can be played using the Picture Motion Browser, which is an application video player provided with Sony AVCHD camcorders. Some M2TS files can be played with ALLPlayer, MPlayer, Windows Media Player, BSplayer, VLC and other media players, some of which will need an appropriate codec, component or plugin installed.

M2TS video format is a standard used on Blu-ray Video discs. M2TS video format contains videos recorded using AVCHD camcorders, such as the Sony's HDR-SR(xx)series models. Panasonic, Canon and other brands of AVCHD camcorders also store recorded video in M2TS video file formats.
